In an attempt to catch up on blog posts, I figured I should go ahead and do a post on this Ballard Locks engagement photography session before the wedding actually happens this time. The Ballard Locks have been a popular choice for my couples lately. It seems to be a special place for many of my clients, most of which happen to be living in Ballard. No matter the reason, it’s a meaningful place for me too, and I always enjoy shooting there.

Stephani and Scott are awesome. I shouldn’t brag, but I knew they would hire me as soon as we had our meeting (also in Ballard). Sometimes you just really click with your clients, and for me, it’s usually the fun, quirky, laid-back couples that find and hire me. I had so much fun at their shoot (I think the whiskey prop helped… them, not me.) and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding. I know it will be awesome!

Tiffany and Keith got married this past weekend, so I figured their engagement session was overdue for a post! They chose a Snoqualmie Falls engagement session because it is a special place for them both. This is where Keith proposed. Of course, Snoqualmie Falls is also one of Washington’s many gorgeous landmarks! I mean, who wouldn’t want a giant waterfall as the backdrop for their engagement photos?

We got some nice shots in the manicured areas above the falls, and of course, the obligatory photo at the overlook. Sadly, Keith’s poor injured foot kept us from making the long trek down (and back up) to see the falls up close and personal, but we were able to walk down a ways and take pictures along the upper trail in the woods. Besides, I hear you get pretty soaked if you get too close anyway!

I look forward to sharing photos from their wedding! Hopefully sooner than later. This has been one busy Summer!

Be sure to read about their love story below the photos!

Their story in their own words:

  • How did you first meet? Who, what, when, where, and why? Give me the dirty details! Well, keep it PG-13. 😉

Tiffany: Keith and I met while I was working at a café. He used to come in M-F sometime between 12-2 with his worker buddies. I always made sure that I was at the cashier whenever he came in to order a drink. From there I developed a crush. I always told myself nothing would ever happen between us. Little did I know.

  • If you feel comfortable, please tell a funny story that happened while you were dating.

Keith: Tiffany and I are 12 years apart. When my brother Sean found out, he suggested that I get her a sippy cup for our next date.

Tiffany: To this day, I still don’t own a sippy cup. 🙂

  • When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something that he/she did or said?

Tiffany: When Keith told me he loved me. I knew that I wanted to marry him. It was our first Thanksgiving together and we had just survived celebrating it with both our families.

Keith: She went out with me. 🙂 Only kidding. Watching her play with my son, I knew we would always be a family.

  • Tell the story of the proposal.

Tiffany: Keith proposed at Snoqualmie Falls. This is where we shared our first kiss and it was our 1 year anniversary and we knew that was where we wanted to be. Right before dinner we went to the observation deck to look at the falls. He walked around trying to find a perfect spot, I didn’t know why. Finally, he found a spot where no one was around and pulled out a blue box. I knew. I fumbled with the ribbon and box, unaware that Keith had gotten down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Then I said, “Are you sure?” Words I’m sure he didn’t anticipate after asking me to marry him.

Keith: Little did she know, I had already asked her father’s permission to marry her 4-5 months prior.

Tiffany: I was shocked to know that both our mothers kept it a secret for so long.

  • What do you love about your engagement shoot locations(s)?

Tiffany: It’s where we shared the first of many things: first kiss, first anniversary and where he proposed. 🙂

I knew I was in for a treat when Michelle and Brian wanted me to shoot their wedding at Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market. Not only was the location unique, but they were the first to take advantage of my newly listed short weddings and elopements photography package. I’m always happy to shoot a short wedding, simply because it’s short and sweet, and I don’t walk away feeling like I’ve been run over by a truck. 🙂 It also seems to have been the perfect length for what they needed.

Michelle and Brian wanted a pretty casual ceremony at Victor Steinbrueck Park, and an intimate dinner at the near by Steelhead Diner. I was asked to shoot the ceremony and the set up before dinner, so here are just a few highlights from this short wedding. Aren’t they a nice looking family?

Christina and Evan just got married this past weekend at the UW campus, so I thought it was an appropriate time, if a little late, to share their Gasworks Park engagement session on the blog. This engagement post may be overdue, but hopefully the images will make up for that!

I had fun with these two from the start of the shoot. We found my new secret spot at Gasworks Park and loved it! Of course we also took advantage of the many green, scenic, and industrial locations that Gasworks Park has to offer. It’s such a unique Seattle park and I’m happy that they were up for shooting there. Even if it meant avoiding the sun for the first half of the shoot. The light just has to be right for the way that I work! Christina’s big beautiful smile was always there and Evan clearly lights up when he sees it. I love their interactive shots, because you can really see how they feel about each other. Congratulations to the sweet couple! Wedding photos hopefully won’t take as long to post! 🙂

Don’t forget to read about Christina and Evan together, in their own words, up until this point in time. You can find that below the photos!

Their story will be a long and happy one. Here it is, so far, in their words:

•           How did you first meet?

Christina’s version: “We met at a party, and I started asking him about his job (we both didn’t really know anyone else at the party!)”

Evan’s version: “It was a bail bondsman themed party. I was dressed as a hot cop.”

•           If you feel comfortable, please tell a funny story that happened while you were dating.

Christina’s version: “On our first date, I wasn’t sure if Evan was really into me since he seemed really distracted. As it turns out, he had accidentally scheduled our date at the same time as a huge football game between his beloved Huskies and USC. He didn’t want to cancel our date, but I had no idea he was so into the game. I figured it out when he asked if he could text his mom after they won!”

Evan: “The first time Christina came up to Seattle for Thanksgiving was when we had the freak snow/ice storm that paralyzed the city for a day and a half. My mom drove to pick us up at SeaTac (it took her five hours to get from downtown to the airport), and by the time she got to us around 11:30 pm there was no way we were getting home. We ended up spending the night at a hotel near the airport, but the only rooms they had left had single beds. The three of us all had to share the bed, I think I slept in the middle…my dream come true!”

•           When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something that he/she did or said?

Christina’s version: “It was obvious all along that Evan was a great catch, but when I came to visit Seattle in October, November, and December of 2010 and I started to be able to see my life with him here, I knew this was going to last a long time!”

Evan’s version: “My story is similar to Christina’s. I have a pretty big extended family in Seattle and from the first time she met everyone, she fit right in like she’d known us forever. I think my mom and her sisters like Christina better than me at this point.”

•           Please tell the story of the proposal.

Christina’s version: “We had talked about it for a long time before, but I didn’t know the night it was actually going to happen. But I did wonder why Evan was all of the sudden so interested in the exact time I was coming home that night…”

Evan’s version: “I knew that Christina might be expecting something on Valentine’s day, so I planned to have something be a surprise so planned to ask her the day before. I made reservations for dinner, so needed to ask her and get to the restaurant in a relatively short amount of time. Little did I know that she was going to happy hour with a friend. In the end it all worked out, though I was definitely stressed and nervous about it!”

•           What do you love about your engagement shoot locations(s)?

Besides that it was in the 90’s teen classic “10 Things I Hate About You”, it’s also close to our house in the neighborhood we love, and we see it every time we go kayaking on Lake Union which we try to squeeze in a lot of every summer.

I love a good Discovery Park maternity session, especially when the couple is willing to change up the specific location in the varied landscape of this huge park. We started out at the beach, a bit too early for great light. My mistake was in thinking that the parking permit needed to be returned by closing time, so I thought we needed to start early. The good news is that you can return the permit after hours to the Visitor Center’s drop box. This information was too little too late, but at least I will know for next time.

We retreated to the upper part of Discovery Park to seek some shade, which was lacking at the beach. Laura and Dearick brought their beautiful dogs along for the shoot. They did pretty well, but were sometimes distracted by an unusual amount of bunnies, even for Discovery Park. Not all dogs are meant for photo shoots, so keep that in mind if you’re considering it… especially for more than one dog. 😉

Giving up on photos with the dogs, we covered a little more ground, ending up near the old church beside the fields. But I did manage to sneak in one more of the dogs off in the distance. Symbolic perhaps, of the next addition to their family, who will be the center of attention for a little while. I look forward to meeting the little tike when he gets here!
