Since photographing the Hawaii wedding of Becca and James a few years ago, I have had the pleasure of documenting each special milestone in their life (like this one and this one). I’m happy that this sweet, beautiful couple has produced such an adorable little child for me to take lots and lots of pictures of!

Josi’s latest big moment was at her 1st birthday party in Puyallup. Becca knows how to throw an awesome party! This one was no exception, complete with cute monkey themed decorations, tons of great food, and toys for the kids. Photo opportunities galore!

He was constantly on the move during this party and his mom had to feed him at any opportunity she could get!

As soon as the back to school theme was suggested on my Facebook Page, a geeky image of myself just popped right into my head. And it looked something like this:

For this shoot, I combined the idea of a stereotypical teen nerd with an exaggerated enthusiasm of returning to school. For the awesome background, I rented a classroom from the Phinney Neighborhood Association at the Phinney Ridge Community Center, which used to be an elementary school. It was too pricey for me to rent a classroom for more than an hour, so I called in my friend, Mary, to help speed things up.

She was great! She found the best nerdy glasses for me to wear, wrote on the chalkboard (The equation was from Dave. Thanks Dave!), put up my hair, and pressed the shutter button, among other things! Yes, she pressed the button. But, would I have gotten this awesome shot if she hadn’t?pinimage

Anyway, I started out with one shot in mind, but I realized there was so much more potential for this theme. So, Mary and I came up with several shots that I think turned out great, especially considering only an hour’s worth of work. Many were interesting enough to share, but may not make sense without the intended story behind them. One of me after my books were dropped, another of me running through a classroom excitedly, and one of me waving to anyone that might want to be my friend. All ridiculous and overly dramatic of course!

I even got one of her jumping for joy!

She seems just excited as I am to be returning to school, doesn’t she? I’m glad I found that friend I was looking for!

Seattle, it’s senior portrait time!

My first photo session for next year’s graduating seniors, was with Annabella. She was a beautiful subject to have in front of my camera! With fabulous hair (that I would die for), those deep blue eyes, and a gorgeous smile, what more could I ask for in a model? Of course, she also did a great job posing!

For this shoot, we went out to Ballard’s quintessential photography location, Golden Gardens. It started drizzling early on, but she was up for continuing with the shoot. What a great Northwest trooper!

Here’s how the photos turned out:

I’ve been so excited to finally be able to share this wedding, especially so recently after New York’s big success in legalizing same-sex marriage!

These ladies chose to come all the way from Chicago to have their ceremony here, in Washington state! I love a chance to brag about my state, but I really have to credit Orcas Island (again!) specifically for drawing them here for their destination wedding.

This Orcas island destination wedding was teeny-tiny in number of guests and participants, but the love and joy that exuded from this group was immeasurable. In fact, all 13 people came out here from the mid-west to support Sally and Jenn on their wedding day.

I am so thankful that it was a small wedding, because I was super sick. I woke up ill, just in time for the wedding. That means I had no time to find a replacement! I managed to tap into my photo-taking-mojo though, so I didn’t have to focus on feeling bad for most of the day. I think the easy-going attitude of the group helped too!

Anyway, they rented a house with a nice garden, which is where the ceremony took place. After the ceremony, we headed out for couple photos at a spot previously scouted by Sally and Jenn. They were great in front of the camera. And, of course, I always appreciate the opportunity to shoot a few silly poses!

We went back to the house and then off to a dinner reception at the Deer Harbor Inn Restaurant. It seemed like almost everyone at the table made a toast! These women are so loved!

All things considered (don’t even ask me about the ferry ordeal!), the day went really well. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these awesome mid-west visitors!

And now for the photos!

Christine Farka - Tracie, beautiful work! beautiful destination! beautiful couple! and you did it all while feeling under the weather – amazing!ReplyCancel

Okay, so my birthday was technically last month, but I thought a birthday theme was still a good suggestion from one of my loyal followers. I also got a late surprise birthday cake, so I had props for this one all ready to go!

The toughest part about this shoot was probably figuring out when I could do it. I had some car maintenance to take care of, a river float adventure to participate in, a Highland Games event to attend, and a last minute baby sitting favor to volunteer for. So, finally, I was able to get this shoot done last night.

It wasn’t too difficult, once I got everything set up. I made a hat, even if it was a bit tall for the photo. I put on a wide angle lens for an intentionally, slightly distorted look. I plugged in one shop light (make that 2, after the first one fell down and broke), aimed it at a reflector for a little fill light. Then I was ready to go, once I lit the candle. Then it was easy-cheesy. And if you’ve been reading my blog for even a short time, you know that the cheesy is almost always present in these self-portraits.

Anyway, enough about the shoot. Here is the final result…
