Thailand wedding photo styled shoot in Bangkokpinimage

Thailand Wedding Photo Shoot

As many of you know, in addition to being a wedding photographer, I’m also a travel blogger. You may also know that I was away during the Fall on a two month international trip which started with TBEX, a travel conference in Thailand. I was fortunate to have already connected with some fellow travel bloggers prior to the conference, one of which was Natalie of Love and Road. She and her husband, Rob, are phenomenal travel bloggers and they make it their full time gig! I was lucky to have a chance to finally meet up with them in person when they were also in Bangkok for TBEX.

Bangkok’s Lumpini Park

Before the trip I thought it would be fun to do a Thailand wedding photo shoot with this gorgeous couple and they agreed that it was a great idea. We had originally hoped to do a shoot at one of Thailand’s beautiful island beaches, but the timing for all of us just didn’t work out to meet up at an island. So instead we stayed in Bangkok and at their suggestion, had the shoot at Lumpini Park, a big urban oasis in Bangkok. A great recommendation!

The biggest challenge for the shoot was getting the right clothes. Normally for a styled photo shoot, I would work with local vendors to supply anything needed, but at the time I didn’t know any. I ended up finding some cheap, casual attire to carry in my backpack. It may not have been very practical in reality, but it worked well enough for an elopement or wedding photo shoot. Since I couldn’t get pants in Rob’s size, he wore a pair of his own burgundy shorts, but this was fitting enough for my typical, non-traditional styled weddings, so I was okay with it in the end. And of course, Natalie and Rob are super easy going, so they didn’t mind either.

We met at Lumpini Park on a cloudy, muggy day. I had already found my spots for the shoot so as not to make them wander around too long in that heat. It is a pretty big park though! So big in fact that we observed quite a variety of interesting sights during our short time there – swarms of giant Catfish, Dragonflies buzzing around us, a public aerobics class, lots of cats, and what happens during the Thailand national anthem… all Thais stop what they’re doing and stand still. Fascinating! Anyway, the park made for a well-rounded shoot, featuring parts of Bangkok’s skyline and a little bit of traditional Thailand architecture. A fitting backdrop for this traveling couple who at the time had made Bangkok their temporary home.

Natalie and Rob easily show their love for one another, as you can see in the photos. I was glad that they didn’t hold back and felt comfortable in front of the camera. They are used to being photographed in the destinations that they visit, after all. They are a lovely couple, inside and out, and I encourage you to go check out their very informative and entertaining blog!

Thanks you guys! I had so much fun! 🙂

When Katy and Brad were looking for a wedding photographer, they searched for “Seattle Travel Photographer” and my name popped up. Not only was I happy that my name appeared in that search, but I was thrilled that they valued travel enough to qualify their wedding photographer by searching for one in that way. Soon after meeting this fun, silly couple, I knew that we were a great match… especially after I heard their plans for their Fremont Solstice wedding!

For those of you who don’t know, Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood is famous (at least locally) for it’s big, artsy Summer Solstice Fair. The Fremont Solstice Fair’s biggest event is the parade that starts off with mostly nude, body-painted bicyclists. After that, the spectacle is slightly less provocative, but just as outrageous and spectacular.

Katy and Brad are creative souls and lovers of their neighborhood of Fremont, so they made themselves a part of the parade! A dedicated group of family and friends joined them in flamboyant costumes alongside their decorated float, which served as their altar both during multiple “ceremonies” in the parade and afterwards inside the Fremont Abbey. The parade ceremonies involved giant rings, loud outfits, and crazy amounts of fun. The momentum of the parade carried through to the Fremont Abbey wedding ceremony, where members of the wedding party danced down the aisles and lounged on couches next to the altar. The Fremont Abbey ceremony and reception were just a little more traditional though, with typical wedding garb and father/daughter, mother/son dances.

While rushing through “formal” photos tends to happen at most weddings, I was concerned that Katy and Brad wouldn’t have enough photos in their more traditional wedding clothes, so I invited them to do some make up photos at sunset on another day. Fortunately this happened to be during one of Seattle’s most spectacular sunsets of 2015. I’m not exaggerating! This sunset actually made the news! Anyway, Katy and Brad are a fabulous couple and I was so happy to have the pleasure of working with them on such a unique event! I wish them all the best!

PS: We might be seeing more from Katy in the local wedding industry! It takes a special kind of person to organize and coordinate such a complex series of events. Let me know if you need an awesome planner and I’ll send you her way!

2015 was an eventful year for me! I’ve explored more of the PNW and traveled to new destinations in the U.S. and abroad. I reconnected with old friends and made many new friends. I’ve worked with some amazing, adventurous people, shooting weddings and portraits in some gorgeous locations around the world. I’ve even been named as one of the top 25 best Seattle wedding photographers of 2015 by Expertise! How cool is that?!

Needless to say, it has been a memorable year! I’ve gone through and collected my photo highlights from the past year to share with you. This very random assortment includes weddings, portraits, and a big chunk of travel photography. Some of these have never even been shared before!

These are by no means my very best photos of the year. Some are meaningful to me personally, some stand out to me visually, and some are stolen moments from memories I’d like to share. It was very challenging to narrow them down to just this many, but it had to be done… otherwise this post would take ages to load. I definitely have some favorites as you will see, but I think a few extras from the same shoot tells a more complete story. 😉

Without further ado, please enjoy my photo highlights of 2015 in no particular order.

Debra and Robert had an Echo Falls Golf Club wedding in Snohomish, WA. These two are so comfortable in front of the camera and with each other, that they practically pose themselves. You can see their love in every photo of the two of them together. I loved capturing that emotion.

Dorothy and Richmond are a sweet, down-to-earth couple who appreciate a good laugh. They are both serious and goofy at any given time.

They chose a Seattle waterfront engagement shoot because it holds a special meaning for them. Well, I won’t spoil it for you. Head to the bottom of the post for a few words from Dorothy about their relationship and their engagement.

  • How did you first meet? Who, what, when, where, and why? Give me the dirty details! Well, keep it PG-13. ;).

On a friend’s bowling team.

  • When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something that he/she did or said?

Richmond is a good listener and we both have a lot in common.

  • Tell the story of the proposal.
