When I have the privilege of photographing a nice looking family with an adorable kid, I’m pretty happy. But when that kid puts his personality on display without holding back, I am ecstatic!

Such was the case with this little guy. At first Isaac was shy and I was a little worried, but soon he couldn’t contain his big personality anymore. He wandered around, in that way that toddlers do, barely giving me a second thought. He managed to stay relatively still at times, but really he just wanted to explore. I get it. You’ve got better things to do, kiddo!

Below are a few favorites from the shoot and a photo showing how their chosen bamboo standouts would look on their wall. Because of my special iPad app, I can take a photo of someone’s wall and show them exactly how their photos will look at the sizes they are considering. Pretty cool, eh? I’ve even used it to configure my own wall photos at home!

I can’t believe how long it has taken me to get this post up! I actually thought I had at one point, but I guess not!

Rosario Head elopementpinimage

Anyway, here it is in all of it’s bohemian seaside elopement glory. OMG you guys, I LOVE this shoot that I worked on with Autumn L. Rudolph Photography. It was already featured over at Simply Elope too, but here you will see only my own photos from the elopement shoot.

You all know how obsessed I am with beautiful backdrops, right? This was my opportunity to pick any place I wanted!! Well, given that we had a local couple and local vendors, we had to stay relatively close to Seattle. I wanted a destination that showed off the unique PNW landscape, which included the water. Of course, we have plenty of those, but I was hoping for something a little isolated and not too busy, so I opted for the Deception Pass area. There are so many beautiful spots in that area that I thought it was perfect! Rosario Head really blew me away though (and for some reason doesn’t get that many visitors), so that was our spot. Right on the water, a little rugged and romantic. Gorgeous! Looking at the photos, you could almost imagine the coast of Ireland or something.

Of course, this Rosario Head elopement shoot wasn’t just about the location. We had amazing vendors to work with (all listed below the post), not to mention a beautiful and willing couple… a real couple! So those lovey shots are real, not acted out by models. Although Aakanksha IS a model… can you see why? She’s stunning, right?

To keep things simple, after all it was just Autumn and I planning this thing, we chose to skip the ceremony part. In the end we didn’t have enough time anyway, but we sure did get plenty of gorgeous shots!

Okay, enough blabbing and gushing about this elopement I somehow forgot to publish! On to what you’re really interested in, the photos!

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE photographing elopements? They are so laid back and intimate, involving just a few select people. They can take place in the most unique and remote places. To be present at one makes it feel like you’re in on a big secret. And while they’re not always super small, far away, or even secret,  they’re always a lot of fun!

The Willows Lodge elopement of Kenny and Chris was no exception. These guys were so much fun to work with… not to mention super handsome and sharply dressed! They also have a ton of personality, which I think really comes through in the photos. One of Kenny’s friends was in attendance, alongside Chris’s parents and Chris and Kenny’s adorable dogs! Other than that it was just me and Annemarie Juhlian who officiated. Willows Lodge provided everything else that was needed, including a lovely outdoor ambiance for the ceremony.

I asked them some questions about themselves and about having an elopement. They chose to answer just a few of them, so I have those at the bottom of this post. It’s fun to read about a couple in their own words, so be sure to have a look. It may give you some insight into the photos themselves.

  • If you could pick one word to describe you as a couple, what would it be?

“Sarcastic.”

  • Describe your perfect Saturday together.

“Sleep in late. Enjoy time with our dogs and go out for a movie. Then cuddle on the couch watching TV all night.”

  • What does an elopement mean to you? Why did you decide to have an elopement?

“Elopement, to us, means we just want to be together regardless of what the ceremony or “dress” should be. It was a state of mind that we were ready to spend the rest of our lives together. But also we wanted to keep it very personal. We both wanted to have fun on our wedding. And we also wanted our family and friends to have fun. An elopement allowed us to have fun on the day. We all enjoyed the process, which is what I intended. We also didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a wedding. We preferred to save the money for bettering our lives, not for one day.”

Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated the blog, but what’s new? I’ve got too much work going on to post regularly, but I guess that’s a good thing!

I do want to catch up a bit by sharing some highlights from 2016. This is much like I did for 2015, but more focused on weddings and portraits than the other stuff… that has been saved for a post on my travel blog here! You wanderlusters should definitely check that one out too!

Unfortunately, many weddings from this past year are not allowed to be shared if the photos show particular people in them, so I have to be a bit choosy when sharing anything from those. Others have not given me the go ahead to share secret elopements just yet, but hopefully I’ll be able to share those soon! Given a few of these restrictions, I’m just going to pick a small number of my favorites from 2016 weddings and portraits sessions.

PS: Since I’ve been sorting through these, I’m noticing how blog-able some of the weddings and shoots are! So, enjoy these for now and look forward to more posts to come!

Have I mentioned how much I love these short and sweet wedding gigs? They don’t have to be elopements, and they don’t have to actually be short weddings… to the couple at least. I’m just hired for a short time, between 3-5 hours, which is usually enough for me to capture anything that is important for the couple. What people want photographed can vary, but it’s always a celebration of love no matter what.

In Liah and Mark’s case, they didn’t want a big deal made out of their wedding ceremony. They invited a small group of friends and family to attend their Seattle Municipal Courthouse wedding and then they had a party with more people afterwards. We took a little break between the courthouse wedding ceremony and the Queen City Yacht Club reception to do private photos at the Seattle Arboretum. It was a fun night for everyone!

I’ve been doing highlights lately for some of these shorter weddings because they don’t always include the full spectrum of typical wedding events. So instead of leaving you wondering what’s missing form the event, just enjoy the highlights!
