I recently had two family Christmas photo shoots back to back. They were both unique, so I will write about the second one in another post.

The first one involved a new member of the family for a couple whose maternity photos I shot last year. I was happy that they requested me again for these photos, as they must have been pleased with their past experience.

Reese is the little munchkin that has joined their family. Super adorable and sweet! A pleasure to photograph, despite occasional grumpiness due to teething pain. Unfortunate timing with the teething, but I think I got a great bunch of photos during the happier times. His parents were armed with tools to distract him from his pain.  Along with toys and food, I was happy to discover that my reflector also served this purpose, but he seemed to think it was a yoga mat!

Reese was quite mobile and kept moving all around, which was probably the worst obstacle. I had a small space to work with and only so many places to put lights, so he ventured too close (not in a dangerous sort of way, just bad lighting-wise) to them or turned his back to them often. I can thank my editing software, Lightroom 3, for being able to recover details in those moments that he wandered into the harsh light. Considering my obstacles, I came away with some pretty nice shots.  I especially love the ones where Reese is strategically positioned in front of the Christmas tree with all the presents and even an Elmo doll. So cute!

We also managed to get a few family shots with all three of them together. Reese was easier to photograph on his own, simply because I could follow him around while he did pretty much what he wanted to. It was more difficult to get him to willingly participate when it was time for family photos.

He has a pretty cute grumpy face, so we made sure to capture a few of those, which will surely embarrass him in the future. Hehehe! I will spare him by not posting those here, and leave it up to his parents to make those photos public as they choose. Perhaps when they are introduced to his first girlfriend? 🙂

As for what else I will post, let’s leave you with the fun side of Reese and the serious side… side-by-side.

I was recently invited out to a trunk show involving my friend, Corie, founder and president of Little Borrowed Dress. A few other local vendors were there to take part in the opportunity to show their goods. The Crowne Plaza in downtown Seattle was gracious enough to provide a lovely venue for the show, along with some yummy treats!

I saw Corie in action, helping potential customers pick out dresses and providing them with great information about her unique business. The idea is that bridesmaids don’t have to break the bank for a dress that they would only wear once. With Little Borrowed Dress, you can “borrow” a dress for the wedding day only, and then send it back when you’re done. Genius!

Here are just a few shots from the event:

Of course, I can’t do her justice with my little rave, so you’ll have to check out www.littleborroweddress.com to get the full scoop and to see the collection of gorgeous dresses! You can also become a Fan at www.facebook.com/LittleBorrowedDress!

This is a post about my good old dad, Philip Howe.

He’s been an incredibly talented artist all of his life, and has made it his career. This weekend, he and several other artists have put together a show for the grand opening of the Kirkland Fine Art Gallery. This is a great opportunity for him and the other artists involved. He also intends to have copies of his first book in The Rune Master series, The Rune Master , for sale during the event on Saturday.

I hope you can make it to the Grand Opening this Saturday or make it to the art walk on Thursday! For more information about the opening, visit:

I’ve been so busy lately that you might be wondering where I am.

I feel like I’m neglecting my blog even though it’s only been 10 days or so since my last post. So here’s a friendly reminder that I’m still here!

I also want to take the opportunity to suggest to any visitors that they not only take a moment to look through my galleries and old posts, but also leave a comment. I would love to hear from you, even if you just say how you found me or who you are. That’s all I need to feel a little blog love!

So, please don’t be upset that I haven’t posted much lately.

I am working on my site for your enhanced enjoyment (which is one reason I’m so busy). Don’t forget to check back in soon for another post! And make sure to say hello in any way that you like 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!

Why I’m doing this?

This Facebook promotion is meant to get the word out about my photography, so you’re already helping me by finding out who I am and hopefully telling your friends. Now, I can help you by giving you a little something extra in return.

How this can benefit you?

Offering you a free engagement session along with fun, fabulous wedding photos only hints at the personal, quality service that I will provide as your wedding photographer. I will admit that wedding photography can be expensive, but I will work with you to give you the best price for your custom wedding photography experience. Maybe some of the money you save with me can be put towards something else that you want, like a gorgeous venue for your wedding.

What about the goods?

Your free engagement session will include 2 hours on location. The location will likely be a park within the Seattle area. You can bring as many changes of clothes as you like, just remember changing time takes away from the time spent on your photos. After the session is done, I will post an online gallery for you to pick your favorite 5 photos to be printed. One of these can be an 8×10 if you’d like, but the rest will be 4×6 or 5×7. You will receive all of the images as digital files on a DVD. The online gallery will remain viewable until after your wedding. You can easily share this with your future guests or anybody else.

Take a look at my Wedding Galleries to see what kind of photos you can expect for your wedding. I also have Portrait gallery that includes couples and engagement photography.

Why engagement photos are SO important?

Not many couples realize this, but an engagement session really helps prepare people for having an entire day documented (this is especially true for the guys!). Imagine meeting your wedding photographer for the first time as you’re getting ready in the morning. That could be quite uncomfortable for everyone. If you’ve already met your photographer AND had photos taken by him/ her, you will have less to stress about on your wedding day.

Another reason why engagement photos are important is because you can practice being in front of the camera. Sure, you can feel free to practice your diva pose, but I really mean that you can practice ignoring the camera’s presence. Ideally you will forget that I’m there on your wedding day, and just carry on as you would if I weren’t. This is hard for most people because we are taught to “say cheese!” at an early age.

Want an obvious reason? Well, you have more photos of course! Perhaps you haven’t thought of what you can do with those photos though. Guestbooks, invitations, thank you cards, or even a little something for your guests so they know where to see your online gallery of wedding photos. Cool, huh? Don’t forget, you’ll also have a nice set of professional photos to choose from when you want to update your Facebook profile. 🙂

Just click on the contact link above in the menu!

Okay, if I still haven’t convinced you how much you need engagement photos, and you still choose to hire me as your wedding photographer, then you are more than welcome to offer the same free deal to anybody you know as a gift from you. A 2 hour on location photo session + 5 prints.

*Additional fees required for families of more than 4 people.
